This week was the last week to water my plants. I watered from Monday to Friday except for Thursday because Hansen wasn't able to get into the school. Today was my harvest event to harvest all the veggies that I grew up till now. Four volunteers showed up to help harvest and we also weeded some of the weeds near the back wall. We harvested cabbages, parsley, chives and tomatoes. One thing that didn't go well was trying to grow the lettuce seeds. We were hoping that 1 out of 40 seeds would sprout and grow, but none did. Cooking the veggies were easy, the ingredients were simple and the amount of time we used to cook was a bit long but the outcome if the food was good. The volunteers and the staff enjoyed it. I made a total of 16 plates with chive pancakes and coleslaw.
On Monday, Randy and I put the lettuce seeds into the two rows we cleared out. I learned how to flip soil with the dried up soil. That day we couldn't find the purple wand to water the plants so we used the sprinkler and the watering cans to water the plants. On Tuesday during cottage crew, we went to water the plants because there was gardening club. I only watered the plants that I planted. On Wednesday I went to water by myself and I weeded a bit. On Thursday, i had Hansen help me water. Friday was the day before long weekend and I couldn't get in to water in the first place because the school was closed. at that moment I thought my plants were going to die due to the heat during the weekend. But Randy and I went in a second time to water before the long weekend. We covered the lettuce seeds with the sacs so it still stayed damp throughout the weekend. Update on the cabbage, 8 of the 11 have grown quite a bit in the past 2 weeks. The parsley and chives are still growing despite the heat in the past weeks. I'm not sure if it weeds growing or lettuce growing in the two rows. One thing that has not been completed is my volunteer recruiting poster for my harvesting on Monday the 15th. Below is a comparison photo between week 1 and week 3. ( Left: week 1 Right: week 3) |
